Internal research projects - year 2016

Project No.: 1272

Project title:

The welfare of stabled cattle and other conditions of cattle farming in the Czech Republic with an accent of their economic aspects (Bošková)

Responsible solver:

Ing. Iveta Bošková, Ph.D.

Aim of the project:

In 2015 the research of a set of farms (n=44) showed surprising relations between the milk production profitability, the stabled cattle welfare, the milk returns, the labour volume and other indicators at the small group of farms (n=10) participating in the cost examination of ÚZEI. The aim of the project is to address more farms from the cost examination made by ÚZEI and to verify the indicative results eventually to find new relations between the profitability and the farming practise.

Summary of the project:

The aim of the research was to take and evaluate a survey on the technological, technical, and managerial endowments for dairy farming for a selected group of farms, and to compare the endowments with economic results of the farms. The data were collected for a group of 37 farms in the form of interview, with a standardized questionnaire. The results show a significant heterogeneity in technological endowments, from outdated technologies to the most modern ones, which undoubtedly reflects in the economic results. A particular weakness of current buildings are low roofs. There still exist farms with tier brooders and troughs coming from the 60s and 70s; in the selected sample, these had the lowest rentability from all.
